Da questa sera 13 aprile e fino al 12 maggio si celebra il mese santo della religione musulmana, il Ramadan. La festività, in arabo sawm, è considerata uno dei cinque pilastri secondo i precetti dell’Islam e cade ogni anno in un periodo diverso in quanto legata al calendario lunare islamico. Nonostante le norme imposte dalla pandemia da Coronavirus, la commemorazione coinvolgerà circa 1,8 miliardi di persone in tutto il pianeta, pronte a celebrare la rivelazione del Corano a Maometto. Da La Mecca, infatti, giungono immagini della preghiera dei pellegrini debitamente distanziati di fronte alla Kaaba, la struttura più importante per i musulmani che si trova al centro della Grande moschea cittadina. Il fard, ovvero il digiuno, è la pratica maggiormente associata a questo periodo di celebrazioni, in cui tutti i musulmani adulti non possono consumare cibi né liquidi, così come sono obbligati ad astenersi da fumo, alcol e sesso durante tutto l’arco della giornata, fino al tramonto. Sono sollevati dal precetto le persone gravemente malate, gli anziani in età avanzata e le donne in gravidanza, allattamento o con il periodo mestruale. Tuttavia, il Ramadan non è solo purificazione, ma anche un periodo di profonda riflessione sulla condizione di fedele musulmano e attività di beneficenza nella comunità di appartenenza.
