Gli ultimi allarmi, in ordine di tempo, riguardano le alluvioni nel nord Europa e in Germania e la devastazione causata dalle piogge che hanno travolto la Cina, mai viste «in mille anni» nel Paese. La regione della città di Zhengzhou, 12 milioni di abitanti, ha sospeso qualsiasi attività e collegamento per fronteggiare la mole di acqua che si è abbattuta sull’area provocando la fuga di migliaia di persone attualmente sfollate. Questi primi sette mesi del 2021, tuttavia, hanno visto una lunga serie di disastri ambientali balzare in prima pagina e aumentare la preoccupazione per il cambiamento climatico. Fenomeni che, in molti casi, hanno perso il carattere di eccezionalità e sono diventati frequenti in tutto il globo. In Nord America, gli incendi in California e Oregon, oltre alla ondata di caldo estremo in Canada, hanno mietuto diverse vittime. In Africa le alluvioni in Kenya, a inizio anno, in Nigeria e Mozambico hanno acuito le problematiche portate sui territori dalle coltivazioni coatte e dalla sfruttamento del terreno. Anche l’Australia è stata sommersa dalle piogge, così come le Hawaii che hanno subito devastazioni con danni per milioni di dollari.
